About Open Source

Open Source gathers products whose source code is published for anyone to read, run and, in many cases, change. This page hangs them side by side: finished apps, code libraries, tools you host on your own machines, and AI models released for others to build upon. Each entry is a working product with a founder behind it, not a bare repository.

Every listing sits in one main category, chosen by its founder at submission. Newest launches appear first, and visitors may sort by community votes instead; votes can never be bought. Use the filters to narrow the wall by subcategory. When reading a label, look for a stated licence, a repository you can open, and a plain account of what the maintainers intend to support. A product that says what it will not do is often easier to trust than one that promises everything.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in the Open Source category?
Products and businesses whose code is publicly available under a licence the founder can name. That includes apps, libraries, self-hosted software and openly released AI. A closed product that merely offers an integration or a public API belongs in a different category.
How do I choose between self-hosted tools and open source apps?
Choose self-hosted tools when you want to run the software on your own server and keep the data there. Choose open source apps when you want something ready to use, whether hosted by the maintainers or installed on your own device. Many products fit both; check how each describes its setup.
How do I get my project listed here?
Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, and you check and edit every field before anything goes live. Your listing has one main category, included free. An upgrade for $5 adds up to 3 more.
How are listings ordered on this page?
Newest first by default, so recent launches get the front wall. Visitors can switch to sorting by community votes. Votes can never be bought, so the ranking by votes reflects what people chose to back, not what a founder paid for.
What should I check when comparing open source options?
Read the licence first, then look at how recently the project was maintained and how clearly its documentation explains installation. Check what is free and what sits behind a paid tier. Also ask who answers questions when something breaks: a named maintainer or an active community is a good sign.
